Tales From History – Waterstones event

Dear all,

You may be aware that WMES have been invited to take part in the ‘Tales From History’ events hosted by Waterstones. As part of this we were invited to submit abstracts for a talk. I am happy to share the details of the event with you!. Our representative will be Alice Baddeley with her talk entitled ‘Looking through the silver screen: A look at cinematic presentations of ancient Egypt’

Date: 25th May 

Venue: Waterstones, 24-26 High Street, Birmingham, B4 7SL

Time: 6:30pm – 8:30pm

The event will be a good opportunity for the society to showcase itself and our events so we hope as many of you can come as possible! It looks set to be a lovely evening. We will post more details soon so please check back.

Poster for February Talk

Here is the poster for our upcoming talk.

WMES Committee members will be at Perry Beeches from 6pm. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available before the talk begins promptly at 6:45pm. As usual there will be a raffle with an egyptology themed prize!

After the talk we will be heading to Bacchus Bar for drinks and a chat with the speaker. You are all invited to join us! We love hearing your enthusiasm for egyptology so do come along if you can.

New WMES location: CONFIRMED.

Dear all,

WMES can now confirm the talk on Wednesday 9th September 2015 with Angela Stienne will be at the new location below:

Perry Beeches II: The Free School, on Newhall Street in the Jewellery Quarter, B3 1SJ. There is FREE parking within the surrounding areas of the JQ. We hope to provide free parking within the school in coming months.

WMES committee members will be there from 6pm, however the talk will start at 6.45pm until 7.45pm.

Everyone is also invited to join us for a drink in the Egyptian room at Bacchus Bar in Birmingham, as usual after the talk.

Museum trip to Leicester New Walk Museum!

Dear all WMES members,
I can now confirm WMES will be going to Leicester New Walk Museum on Sunday 26th July.

Unfortunately, we won’t have a guide on the day but there will be a talk on the same day at the museum by John Johnson entitled “Mummies, asps and far too much eye make up; Ancient Egypt in the cinema” at 2pm. This talk is FREE and I have reserved 15 seats for us.

Schedule for the day:

11.00am – Meet outside New Walk Museum (After I get the numbers I will send details of travel but otherwise please make your own way there)
11.15pm- 12pm Visit the Ancient Egypt Gallery
12pm – 1pm – Lunch (bring your own – there is a nice café at the museum)
1pm-2pm – Secret Egypt Exhibition
2pm – 3pm – John Johnson’s talk
3pm – Depart from New Walk Museum

Please let me know if you can make it by Monday 13th July! The trip is FREE
